Bethany Presbyterian Church
was founded in 1924 as a mission outreach of, what was then, the
old Norfolk Presbytery. Our first minister was the Rev. S. K. Emurian, who served from 1924 until
1927. At present, we are the only Presbyterian church in the Isle of Wright County.
The following, were later in turn, called to be full time ministers:
Vernon L. Fisher, 1927-31; W. R. Buhler, 1931-40; T.W.
Buchanan, 1941-45; James M. Ammons, 1946-48;T. T. Traynham, 1949-54; Jeff Monroe, 1955-58;
Gerald L. Voye, 1960-63; Harry B. Christie, 1964-68; Erold Lotridge, 1969-73; Ernest W. Pettis,
1973-80; Stephen N. Weed, 1980-91; John P. Hartman, 1992-97.
At present,
The Rev. Douglas Van Niel
is our Minister, arriving on the field, January 2000.
